Subaru's
Rally heritage dates back to 1980, but it wasn't until 1989
when Prodrive took over the team and moved the team base from
Japan to Banbury, England. That is when Subaru's World Rally
Championship (WRC) team, the Subaru World Rally Team (SWRT)
took the form we all know today. Subaru's WRC cars are known
for there distinctive blue and yellow color scheme, which is
a throwback to the sponsorship deal from 1993 to 2003 with State
Express 555, a popular cigarette brand in Asia.
Subaru
has credited the increased sales of its vehicles with its success
in the World Rally Championship, especially the Subaru Impreza
WRX.
